About the event
Bastille Day is a holiday celebrating the storming of the Bastille—a military fortress and prison—on July 14, 1789, in a violent uprising that helped usher in the French Revolution. Although far removed from our local French Caribbean History, the Normandie Bar built and owned by Anthony Quetel became party central on this historic day which also happened to be Anthony’s birthday. The Community Band that led our annual local carnival parades was always invited to play music. Over time Bastille Day was spearheaded by the Frenchtown Civic Organization, paying tribute to community members.
